Recommending all 4 of these books. They are short, easy to read and follow, and provide excellent information about the most important behaviors dogs should be taught (Recall, Loose Leash Walking, and Drop It/Leave It)

Tails and Dew claws
I no longer dock tails or remove dew claws since these are entirely aesthetic surgeries.

Vaccinations
I vaccinate minimally, I titer my dogs yearly. I only booster when their immunity levels are low. I do follow Dr. Jean Dodd's recommendations for vaccinations. However, you are more than welcome to follow your veterinarian's recommendation for vaccines for your puppy.

When do I get my puppy?
Over the years and several different litters later, I've noticed a transition point with puppies that at 8.5 -9 weeks they are looking for more individual connection with their person. So this is a good time for puppies to head to their forever homes and start the bonding process.

Spay/Neuter
I recommend to spay/neuter at 2 years. There are many studies showing that keeping your puppy intact until maturity is healthier for your dog in the long run. For males this is 2 years and for females it's after their first or second heat cycle at 12-18 month.
