We occasionally may have older pups or adult Poodles looking for retirement or pet homes. Due to being a small breeder who raises our puppies with intent and purpose we try to keep our household of dogs low.  This is due to the amount of attention, training and enrichment our Poodles need and we want to be able to love them all and give them the best life.  Sometimes this means finding homes for them so they can be the center of attention, and have an amazing life with a smaller family.  It's never an easy decision but it's also a selfless choice to give our dogs the best life possible.  We just cant keep them all when we know there are families who would love them and enjoy them as much as we do.

Our dogs are our world! We do almost everything together, we compete in dog sports and events, travel together, camp, paddle board, run on the beach and take hikes.  Our dogs sleep on our beds and sit on our couches with us.  They go to bus stops, the grooming shop, the veterinarians and stores that allow them in.  Our dogs have been around children and other animals. They are part of our family.

Hazel ~ 6yrs old, spayed female

Amazingly sweet and super smart Hazel would love a companion all to herself, without other dogs.  While Hazel is dog friendly she wont tolerate another pushy dog that tries to tell her what to do.  She's not mean but vocal and bossy.  Hazel is a very loyal girl who has been the top dog in our home all her life, she manages the other dogs and makes sure everyone is behaving.  She loves people and adventure. She would do well with a minimalist lifestyle.  I say this coming from my busy home of kids/teens that she's very good at finding dirty laundry where it doesn't belong.  She will counter surf and take things to get your attention, this includes your sandwich or paper towels.  This is when you know she needs stimulation as she does get bored.  However, if you want to snuggle in bed all day she's also the best at this activity.  She's great on trails as she stays close and checks in and avoids other dogs. She has a sense of humor and can be a clown at times and make you laugh.  She is smart, so an experienced dog person is a must, she can open crate doors and read your mind at times.  She loves to use her nose and track, she has chase drive.  She's never been around cats.  A home without small children would be best, she loves to wrestle with my 16 yo son, but he is dog savvy and they have the best time. Hazel would love to be the focus of someones attention.  If you're interested in meeting Hazel, please fill out an application or send me an email cascadiaspoos@gmail.com

Guardian Homes

Cascadia Standard Poodles is accepting applications for guardian and co-ownership homes.  If you have ever considered or want to learn more about being a guardian or co-owner, please do message me to see a sample contract and discuss both the benefits and the drawbacks to know if it's right for your family.

Guardian families are a huge part of many programs, as they allow breeders to have a program while giving their breeding dogs a full life with their forever families.  Many top kennels have done this type of agreement for years without giving it a name but the term “Guardian” has been used recently in the last few years. Breeding dogs live as companions, working service, therapy dogs, competition and performance dogs in loving homes with carefully selected guardians as their forever families. These families provide love and care to their furry family member, enjoy a beautiful Standard Poodle’s love in return, and play an important role in the preservation of the breed.

In our Guardian Program, our potential future dame and sire puppies live and do life with their guardian (forever) families. After passing their pre-breeding health testing, genetic testing, conformation titles and performance titles,  they enter their breeding career. Females come back to us about a week before their puppy due date and stay approximately 8 weeks, until their puppies are weaned.   Males need to be available for occasional dates! We cover all expenses related to health testing and breeding and also cover the spay/neuter at the end of the breeding careers.

In our experience this is a wonderful opportunity for our local families to have a "pick of the litter" puppy for a family pet without the expense.  We have found this to be a positive relationship for all; our guardian families enjoy the excitement of being a part of our breeding program, seeing the puppies of their very own guardian dog bring happiness to other families, and enjoy their own beautiful Standard Poodle. We place our guardian puppies with their family for a refundable fee of $1500, much less than the cost of a pet/companion puppy; however there are some requirements and responsibilities.

If you are interested in enjoying the puppy process and acquiring a beautiful breeding quality Standard Poodle for your family please see if you meet the following requirements and submit a “Puppy Questionnaire”   Always feel free to contact us with questions!

  • Live approximately within a 3 hour drive of Cascadia Standard Poodles (Bend Or.).

  • Provide a loving and safe environment that includes a fenced play area.

  • We prefer that the puppy is not home alone for extended periods of time during the day. Ideally either work from home, have the ability to take the dog to work with you, or otherwise have someone at home with the puppy (puppy needs to do life with people!).

  • Agree to feed a high quality dog food approved by Cascadia Standard Poodles.

  • Provide proper puppy socialization, basic obedience training, within a group class or individual trainer. Cascadia Standard Poodles provides an incentive. For every Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog Title the Guardian earns with the puppy/dog, Breeder will give $25 as a thank you once the title has been recorded with AKC. For Performance titles (agility, obedience, scent work, Barn Hunt, NASDA, Dock Diving, etc), Breeder will give the guardian Novice level $50, Intermediate$100 and Advanced $200.

  • Be responsible for the  puppy's basic health care and follow our guidelines for the vaccine schedule, type of vaccines, and the use or avoidance of certain medications, etc

  • Carry basic Pet Medical Insurance, i.e: Healthy Paws, Trupanion, All State.

  • Maintain and afford proper Standard Poodle grooming while in our breeding program, I will offer grooming services for all show trims and maintain while competing in Conformation.

  • Provide exercise and lots of love and attention!

Co-Ownership

A Co-Ownership is a shared investment in a potential breeding dog.  Typically this is someone who is looking to get more involved into the breed and wants to work towards a program of their own in the future but needs the guidance and a quality prospects to get started.  This can also be someone who already has a successful breeding program and wants to add a new dog to their current program.

Cascadia Standard Poodles will reserve the pick male and female from each litter and hold for a Guardian or Co-Owner. If you're interested in learning more and seeing our Co-Ownership contract please contact us.
